Experience
I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a bachelor's degree in Physics, earning distinction in the curriculum. I minored in math, and I actually completed so many courses I was just 12 hours short of earning a double major. As you can probably tell, I love both physics and math. It began in high school, where I scored well on Advanced Placement exams in Physics B (4), Calculus BC (5), and Chemistry (5). High school is also where I got my start in tutoring, first as a volunteer and then later as an advisory block teacher in 12th grade. My work as a tutor continued when I was on campus at UI-UC, mostly in math and physics. My ability as a tutor was recognized, and I became a lab tech and teaching assistant. What I enjoy most about tutoring is the variety of strategies and tools used to help the student understand the content. There may be a particular method that works for most every student, but it doesn't work for everyone. In my eight years of tutoring, I have learned that you must be able to have a full toolkit at your disposal. A benefit for me is that it increases my own learning in physics and math. Of course, there is also tremendous satisfaction when you see that the person you are tutoring meets their own academic goals.
